On Saturday, May 8th I ventured to the Big South
Fork NRRA to the Honey Creek Loop. It is advertised as a strenuous hike. It is as advertised. The highlight of the trail occurs
as you descend into a slot canyon. You are surrounded by boulders, water and the sense of being dropped back in time to the age
of the explorers. As you crawl over, under and in between said boulders you begin to realize why many say this is the toughest
mile in the Big South Fork. I highly recommend this trail if you are into adventure. Don’t hike it in the rain or right
after a heavy rain. You will be hiking up a waterfall and through creek beds. Go in prepared. The hike is only 5.6 miles but
it is said to take some people 5-6 hours to hike it. It may also take that long if you choose to soak in the beauty. I suggest hiking this trail counterclockwise. Take a map, a compass and if you have
one a GPS. It will help should you get lost… in this land that time forgot.
